CHRIS HORVATH
("Jake" / Writer / Director / Editor / Producer)

Chris Horvath graduated from San Francisco State University in 1997 with a degree in Cinema and promptly went out and forgot everything he was told. Thus was born LEISURE.

Of course, this type of filmmaking is not very profitable as of yet, so when Chris is not actually sitting at his iMac editing the same movie over and over again, he's delivering pizzas.

Other cool film stuff Chris has done; writer on THE ILLUSION and Prop Master on GROOVE.

Other cool video stuff Chris has done; co-founder of ANIMX Studios, director of the SHOWCASE MAGAZINE VIDEO SHOW and resident video editor for 911 Entertaiment... all three of which went bankrupt. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

CHRIS FERREIRA
("Pete" / Original Music Composer)

Chris Ferreira has been involved in music composition and film in the Bay Area for some years. His early credits include student and independent short films of a wide range, many of which went on to show at festivals around the country.

His first feature film collaboration was with Michael Goorjian on the locally produced OAKLAND UNDERGROUND.

His recent credits include Art Director and the character of "Bill" in the locally produced GROOVE, which was purchased by Sony Pictures Classics and enjoyed success in theatres throughout the country and the part of "Jesus" in the short film RIPPLE which was shown at the Cannes film festival.

Chris recently finished the composing the soundtrack for THE ILLUSION.

BRIAN COPENHAGEN
(Director of Photography/ Sound Editor
)

An Oakland native, Brian Copenhagen has been courting sound and music since age eight when he picked up the cello. For many years, Brian continued his close relationship with music, developing skills on trombone, acoustic and electric bass, drums, and guitar. This led naturally to an interest in sound, and he began recording his own bands in 1990.

He turned toward the world of film in 1995, when he undertook recording production sound for several 16mm films with graduate students at Loyola Marymount University. In the following years, Brian worked as a production sound mixer for films shot on 35mm, 16mm, DV, and High Definition. His affinity for music has continued through sound design and composing for short films.

Brian recently wrapped production on Ball Lightning, a High-Definition short film written by Barry Gifford, a co-writer of Wild at Heart and Lost Highway. He continues to teach a course in Location/Production Sound at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, and work as a freelance sound mixer for film and broadcast television.

MICHAEL GOORJIAN
("Barney")

At this early stage of his career, Michael Goorjian has already established himself as an actor of great diversity. As a writer/director he has explored unique and creative avenues of the independent film world.

Michael's acting credits include SLC PUNK! (Sony Pictures Classics); HARD RAIN (Paramount); the Oscar nominated film LEAVING LAS VEGAS (MGM/UA); NEWSIES (Buena Vista); CHAPLIN (Tristar); FOREVER YOUNG (Warner Bros.), DO NOT DISTURB (starring William Hurt and Dennis Leary.) THE INVISIBLES (Sundance selection, opposite Portia DeRossi), and AMERIKANA (produced by Zentropa/Dogma 95).

Michael spends much of his time perfecting his creative bent as the founder of Maldoror Productions, Inc. He recently completed his first feature film, OAKLAND UNDERGROUND as the writer/director. Michael has also written and directed the short films LIEBER NOX and RON and he directed this year's winner for best short film at the Arizona Film Festival, CALL WAITING.

He starred in the television series PARTY OF FIVE, which won the 1995 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama, and played "Justin," the childhood best friend and romantic interest, opposite Neve Campbell's "Julia."

Michael is a founding member of The Buffalo Nights Theater Company, a theater organization formed by a small group of UCLA graduates.

Other interesting facts about Michael Goorjian: his father is a physicist at NASA and Michael himself enjoys studying quantum physics, he is an Eagle Scout and a part-time professor at Loyola Marymount University. Michael drives a 1986 Chevy Caprice formally owned by the Los Angeles Police Department.

ALEX SMITH
("Lars" / Location Manager)

Alex Smith is 31. He was born in Silicon Valley, has lived in the Midwest, Los Angeles, and Oakland.  His values were formed in the Midwest, warped in L.A. and straightened out again in Oakland.

He was an English major at UCLA then dropped out to escape L.A. and move to Oakland.  He is hoping to become an Oakland Firefighter, but for now is managing and tending bar at Cato's - where most of Leisure was filmed.

This is where he met Chris Horvath and most of the cast and crew.

For fun, Alex likes to read, cook, golf, take one class per semester at local community colleges, write lyrics for the band he sings in, go foraging for mushrooms, bike occasionally, brew beer, go to the gym or jog w/ his dog to keep in shape, and drink with friends.

He had a blast filming Leisure and loves the whole cast and crew.

Little trivia: he started smoking again for his role as Lars, and wasn't able to quit again until almost six months after finishing filming.

Burgin Bailey
("Hank")

Burgin was born one stormy September night in a small fishing village near the Morrocco/Germany border on the banks of an unnamed river.

By the age of thirteen he knew he was different than the other village boys, and on the eve of the tribe's rituallistic festival in which all the thirteen year old males were to pass from youth to manhood, he fled in his newly made bamboo canoe to a nearby airport.

Once there, he snuck aboard, and has never looked back. He made his way across several continents to the bright lights of a big city called Oakland.

He now resides in the Piedmont Avenue neighborhood, and makes his living through tending bar and acting for free in local small films.

Burgin is 41 years old. He has never oficially participated in any ritual in which a boy becomes a man. Thank you.
